Broadening the definition of "medical marijuana" to include hemp seed nutrition.

I challenge President Obama, Governor Schwarzenegger, et al to sign an Executive Order recognizing hemp as a "strategic food resource" (as did Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Nixon and Clinton); and to identify Cannabis as the world's most completely nutritious, globally available, environmentally beneficial, and industrially useful rotational crop; in time for "essential civilian demand" being presented this May in Sacramento; and an intensive planting in every state of the Union, in Spring of 2010.

I further challenge the medical marijuana community to broaden the definition of "medical marijuana" to include the unique and essential nutritional therapeutic benefits of fresh, fertile Cannabis seed (both "industrial" hemp [sic] and 'marijuana').

I further strongly recommend that a ban on genetic modification of hemp be stipulated, and and self-regulation of Cannabis farming be entrusted to the farmers, through the National Grange and the National Farmer's Union.


The best medicine is the one that keeps you from getting sick in the first place. Our freedom to farm "every plant bearing seed" is the first test of religious freedom." Drugs don't make seeds, plants do.

I am writing to invite your consideration of the potential for a biogenic, agricultural strategy for climate change mitigation. Radiative forcing, using low-THC, industrial strains of Cannabis hemp, could produce a steady concentration of atmospheric "monoterpenes" while sequestering a ton of carbon per acre per growing season.

I would be interested to know your thoughts on this theory and invite the UN and Club of Madrid to initiate agricultural research projects to determine the radiative forcing, agricultural conversion potential, concurrent with determination of the organic protein and fuel production profile of Cannabis agriculture.

As solutions become obvious

The economics of punishment are reaching their inevitable inertial extreme in the economics of extinction. Unless the dominance of the current values paradigm is replaced with something that works in better harmony with the Natural Order, soon, the window of opportunity (that may or may not still remain open) will very quickly close.

Time is the limiting factor in the equation of survival. If growing hemp is a good thing to do, then it would be better to start doing it sooner than later. Spring is approaching quickly. The rationale for planting has achieved its inevitable critical urgency. "Essential civilian demand" for an unique and essential "strategic food resource" is entirely justified.

To delay the exercise of essential civilian demand for hemp risks wasting another growing season, another season of carbon sequestration and oxygen production, organic conversion and development of "Gaiatherapeutic industries", defined by net positive environmental benefit.

"Essential Civilian Demand" due diligence

The following was mailed as an OpEd piece to the Sacramento Bee. It will be interesting to see if they publish it...

An Open Letter to President Obama, Attorney General Eric Holder, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and State Attorney General Edmund G. Brown Jr.

Honorable Gentlemen,

I think it only fair to offer you all the individual opportunity to make an obvious leadership decision. I believe there may be legal repercussions for failing to act positively in the interest of national security.

Industrial hemp is coming back to American farmers and gardeners, with or without permission from the latest in a succession of insolvent, warmongering regimes. War and crippling national debt are threats to national security. There is no acceptable reason for either.

War is a symptom of radical imbalance. Disparity of wealth has created global armed conflict. Sustainable agriculture is the remedy. Cannabis hemp is a part of that equation, as is the factor of 'time' in this Spring's planting season. We can't afford to waste another year. We must begin planting industrial hemp in 2010.

In the absence of a single rational reason not to do so, "essential civilian demand" for Cannabis is being implemented under the protection of the First Amendment. An unique and essential historically revered hemp has been recognized in Executive Orders signed by six American Presidents as a "strategic food resource." Both the National Farmers Union and the National Grange support the reintroduction of industrial hemp for production of food, fuel, fiber, cellulose and oil.

I submit that by failing to recognize the true value of Cannabis as a strategic resource, as other Presidents have done, may appear as a misprision of treason, considering the threat posed to national security by Cannabis prohibition.
